What’s wrong with my dog? She has a raspberry jam like dark colored diarrhea, with little blood, she has just about done it twice. She has vomited twice a little. She is sleepy, with no appetite and will not drink water.

Poor Felisha! I'm sorry to hear that she's sick. There are quite a few different things that can cause bloody diarrhea, vomiting, and lethargy, so it's hard to say what might be wrong without being able to examine her and run some tests. Some possible causes would include a GI problem like pancreatitis or HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis), a systemic illness like liver or kidney disease, or ingestion of something toxic. Since she's acting lethargic and not eating in addition to having vomiting and bloody diarrhea, I would really recommend taking her to an emergency clinic tonight to be seen, if possible. If you aren't able to do this, then I would definitely take her to your regular vet's office first thing in the morning. Your veterinarian can do blood work or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.

Rocky needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. Blood in the stool is always concerning and with a worry about food poisoning, you don't want bacteria getting access to the blood stream. While dogs can get food poisoning, diarrhea in general can be cased many conditions including eating something he shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites or even organ disease. With continued diarrhea (over 24 hours), there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check him for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. I hope Rocky starts feeling better quickly! Please feel free to post any additional questions.

I would recommend taking Bobo to a veterinarian today. They can provide hydration, a bland diet and medication to help resolve the diarrhea. They can also perform a stool sample just to rule out intestinal parasites, but it sounds like he may have eaten something to affect his gastrointestinal system. The reason I would go today is because with having some blood at the end of his bowel movement this could easily become something called hemorrhagic gastroenteritis where they are bleeding when defecating. With this they typically need IV fluids and hospitalization. By going today this may avoid an emergency room trip later. I hope Bobo feels better soon! Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and Happy Fourth of July!

It sounds as Vixen is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.
