Is it safe to visit a recovering parvo puppy if my dog is vaccinated?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shiba Inu | Female | spayed | 10 months and 11 days old | 17 lbs

Hi my friend has a puppy who was diagnosed with parvo 1 week ago. She is fully recovering and healthy now. Would it be safe for me to go visit the puppy? I have a 2 year-old vaccinated dog at home (she is vaccinated).

Generally the vaccine is highly effective so assuming your dog is up to date on vaccines and is not immunocompromissed, it should be safe. Be aware that the puppy will shed parvo for 6 months and the virus can survive in the soil for up to a year. I hope this helps.
