Why is my dog sneezing often outside? Allergies or something else?

My 8 yr old male chihuahua has been sneezing often. He has spells of sneezing and then seems to catch his breath for a minute. He has sneezing fits especially when he is in the yard to go potty. He has a good appetite. Is this an allergy symptom or something else?
