My dog is throwing up, has a runny nose, and won't eat. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 48 lbs

My dog started throwing up Friday the 7th. Wouldn't eat her dinner but finally did after throwing up a couple more times(total of 6 or so). She was fine all weekend except the occasional time where she threw up. Today she vomited again and it seems she has a little runny nose and tiny bit if discharge from the eyes. It seems like her appetite keeps coming and going as well. She eats at around the same times everyday but sometimes she won't touch her food, other times she does. What should I do??

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Chloe. Her symptoms have persisted long enough that it is time to see her veterinarian. I recommend having her seen today if at all possible. Vomiting for as long as she has, can leave her dehydrated. Her veterinarian will examine her and may recommend some testing to determine the source of her problems. Trratment such as fluids and anti-nausea medication will likey help her feel better. I hope this information helps!

It sounds as Ava is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.
