Why is my 8-week-old puppy lethargic, not eating, and sleeping a lot?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Is my pup lethargic? Not really eating for the last 6 hours, drank just a fair amount of water. I dont know if my dog has diarrhea but i have a picture of his stool. She would often wake up when she needs to take a poo/pee or sometimes wake up just walking and exploring but no enthusiasm. But spent most time sleeping?..When i played with her, she sometimes would respond ( when i threw a ball toy, sometimes she would chase but just by walking, not running enthusiastically.) Pup is 8week old. PLZ

If your puppy is alert mentally, and is getting up and walking around/playing occasionally then I wouldn't classify this as extreme lethargy, so I wouldn't classify your description as a puppy that needs immediate veterinary attention, but we do usually see puppies being more playful so I would make an appointment at a vet's office for an examination once they are open. If the puppy becomes nonresponsive/unable to walk/raise its head then this would be extreme lethargy requiring urgent care.
