What should I do if my hamster has a lump or growth on its eye?

Hi there, I need some important advice. My hamster has a lump on his eye and I don’t know what’s it is. Could you help ASAP???

Thanks for reaching out about Willow and including a photo. It is difficult to identify the cause in this picture but a swelling is obvious. Eye lid infections or abscesses, lacrimal duct obstruction, trauma, are all possible. A veterinary visit would most likely assist in a diagnosis and treatment plan. For now, wipe gently with a soft, moistened towel. Good luck.

    This lump/growth should be ideally examined by your veterinarian to have a definitive diagnosis. Your vet will examine it and possibly perform with an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy. Differentials would include skin cyst, infections or benign or malignant type of tumors. An anti-inflammatory and antibiotic treatment can be attempted.
