My puppy has bloody, jelly-like stool. Could it be parvovirus?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 27 days old | 6 lbs

My dog, Charlie, is 4 months old and I noticed her feces looked bloody but it looked like jelly. I looked some things up and I thought it could be parvovirus because she hasn’t received that vaccine but she doesn’t have any other symptoms of parvovirus only bloody feces.

Poor Charlie! I agree that parvo is always a concern with a puppy this age who is having bloody stool, even if he isn't having any other obvious symptoms at this point. It's also possible that he could have intestinal parasites, or an infection of some kind. Extremely bloody stool like this always warrants a vet visit, so I would recommend taking him in today for an exam. Your veterinarian can test him for parvo, and may also do a fecal exam for parasites or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem so he can get started on appropriate treatment.
