My outdoor cat is sneezing a lot. Is it serious? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 years and 9 months old | 8.2 lbs

4 days ago our 6 year old cat started to sneeze which she hasn't done before. She is an outdoor cat, so pollen allergy might be a possibility. Remie has been adopted 11 months ago, so we don't know about previous years. She just woke up, sneezed about 10 times and went back to sleep. No other symptoms. How serious is this, how can we help her?

I would not be worried unless the sneezing becomes a constant problem. Could be an allergy or the start of an upper respiratory. As long as she is eating and drinking OK and there is no nasal/ocular discharge I would not be overly concerned. There is nothing you should give her for now. Hope this helps. If you have more questions you can always opt for a private consultation where we can chat back and forth. That way you can ask as many questions as you'd like. Best wishes.
