After deworming, my puppy passed a dead worm. Is hard stool normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 2 days old | 7 lbs

My puppy is 9 weeks when i got her she was 7 weeks and the last owners told me she had her shots and was dewormed but they never gave me her records. I went to get her shots done and deworm and she really didn't have no signs of worms. And never had anything in her stole. one of my family members got a puppy that did have round worms she had contact with that puppy and would lick him. Now after deworming in her stole she had a dead worm but just one out of the two days and her stole in hard.

All puppies have worms. All of them. It is rare to actually see them in the stools so when you do, it is usually because they have a heavy burden. A puppy should be dewormed every time they get their vaccines and then once a month with their heartworm prevention for life. Don't worry about it right now as the worms are dying. Just make sure she gets dewormed again at her next vaccine appointment.
