Dog nail bleeding after trim. How to prevent re-bleeding or infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 45 lbs

While cutting Luna's nails, one of her nails got chipped slightly shorter, and it started to bleed. On applying pressure, it has stopped. Is there anything I can do to make sure, it doesn't get infected or starts bleeding again? Thank You

It sounds like you handled it correctly. I would not worry about it getting infected that is extremely rare to happen. You are best to just leave it alone. If it starts bleeding again you can use baking powder, cornstarch or flour to stop the bleeding. ( https://wahlusa.com/pet-grooming/expert-advice/how-treat-dog-nail-bleeding-during-trimming )
