Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. I would recommend that he has an abdominal ultrasound by a radiologist to better assess his urinary system. His bladder should be scanned for a mass and his prostate evaluated. He could unfortunately have bladder cancer, a prostatic mass or an infection of his prostate. Has his veterinarian checked his penis to make sure the issue is not there? Lastly, a bleeding disorder can result in dripping blood. However, evidence of this should have shown up on his laboratory work. I hope this information helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would be concerned for a urinary tract infection or possible stones. These things may not have been evident on his exam if he was not showing signs. Do not let Mitch urinate prior to his exam so the vet can check a sample under the microscope. They may also need to take an x-ray for bladder stones. They can then start him on the appropriate medications. Good luck and kisses to Mitch!

I can understand why you are concerned as this is not normal. The question is where is the blood coming from, it could be from the prepuce, penis, prostate, or urinary tract. Is he urinating normally (no straining, accidents, does some urine come out normal)? Or are you noticing just drips in between urination attempts? Did he have any bloodwork to evaluate his ability to clot his blood (a cbc to check platelets, clotting times?). Were they able to extrude his penis from the prepuce to evaluate for any problems (to check for foreign material, a mass, etc., sometimes this requires sedation for a complete evaluation)? If the blood is still apparent your pup should have another visit to get to the root of the problem. Sometimes this may require a visit to a specialist to solve the issue. Your vet can likely make a referral if needed. I hope this helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

He could have a urinary tract affection so he should be examined by a veterinarian to determine the cause. Your veterinarian can run a urinalysis to check for an infection and then prescribe an antibiotic, if needed.
