My dog has a rash near his tail. Why is he scratching and lethargic?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered

Our dog Brown, has what appears to be a rash but we aren’t too sure what it is. It is located near his tail and where his legs and body meets if that makes any sense. He won’t stop scratching and he’s not as playful as he usually is.

It looks to me like he most likely has a skin infection from scratching or licking. It could be due to fleas or some sort of allergy. He may need some antibiotics to clear the infection. You could try applying a hydrocortisone cream to try and relieve the itching but may need stronger antibiotics from a veterinarian
