Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 40 lbs
My 40lbs dog ate 3 grapes, and I read they're toxic to dogs. We induced vomiting (1 tsp of peroxide per 10lbs of body weight I read) and she threw all up completely, they didn't appear to be digested. She had a bit of diarrhea, but besides that seems fine. She drank some water, ate a bit of food, and just seems a little tired but besides that nothing out of the ordinary. Is this something we need to take her to the vet for ASAP? (No nearby clinics are open at the moment). Pic taken moments ago.

If you know she only ingested 3 and she puked them back up then you should be in the clear. However, peroxide can cause irritation to the stomach so if she continues to vomit or has a decrease in appetite tomorrow then you may want to have her seen by your veterinarian for some nausea medication. Good job getting the grapes up! Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

If all the grapes were vomited there is nothing to be worried about. Mild inflammation of the gastrointestinal system may be present now (due to the peroxide). Generally speaking would be ideal to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. If you have any doubts that some (or even one) grapes were ingested an immediate check up would be ideal as there is no toxic dosage for grapes.

Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your question about Kiwi! I'm wondering if the grapes came out when she vomited. If she did, then she should be fine. Do not make her vomit again. Only in cases of extreme emergencies do I recommend using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to make a dog vomit at home. The reason is that H2O2 can and does cause severe esophagitis and gastritis, often worse than the initial problem, so it's always preferred to advise emergency care. Also, we have no way of knowing whether the dog is debilitated and has a greater chance of aspirating. And finally, the object you are trying to get out could get stuck in the esophagus, making the situation much much worse. If she did not vomit out the grapes and you can't afford an ER vet, I still would not induce vomiting again and instead take her into your vet first thing in the morning for baseline blood work. Then have blood work taken again in four days to see how her kidneys are functioning. This will tell if the amount of grapes she ingested caused any problems or not. I hope this helps, best of luck.
