How to soothe my cat's irritated, watering eye before the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 7 years and 5 months old

My cat's left eye is watering, irritated and pink. There is also a bit of mucus building up in her inner corner. She has also been itching her face on anything possible. I have an appointment for her to see her vet tomorrow. So I was wondering of there was anything I could do in the mean time to maybe make her more comfortable because I hate seeing her so miserable.

Poor Baby Spice. Depending on the condition, eye problems can be quite uncomfortable and sometime painful. Seeing a vet is definitely the best choice as a full ophthalmological examination is required to reach a diagnosis an prescribe the correct treatment. Try to avoid scratching as the eye problem can get worse. I suggest to use a buster collar to prevent further scratching and damage. The discharge building up in her inner corner can be cleaned with a wet swab (with saline solution). Good luck. Please post again on the forum if you would like to discuss it further. I hope my answer was helpful.
