Does my cat need to eat grass, or is malt paste a good substitute?

Does my cat need to eat grass.She has not eaten any grass since 2 years.I gave her malt paste instead of grass.

No, cats do not need to eat grass, it's not part of their normal diet. Balim also doesn't need malt paste unless she has continuing problems with hair balls. The only food she needs is a dry or canned wet cat food. I hope this helps!

Grass is good for cats. It helps break down their food and therefore helps cats that vomit frequently due to a sensitive stomach or IBD (inflammatory bowel disease). However if Luna doesn't like to eat the grass, then unfortunately there aren't many options to get her to like it. As an alternative you can offer her an easily digestible diet once she is an adult cat (over the age of 1). I would recommend some good high quality brands such as Royal Canin Gastrointestinal high fiber, Limited ingredient Natural Balance or even Wellness no grain, if she develops any kind of stomach issues in the future.

Why my Persian cat is eating grass.
Some cats may eat grass to settle an upset stomach or to self induce vomiting. Cats will also eat grass due to boredom or simply because it tastes good. As long as Kitty is behaving normally, there is likely no cause for concern.

My cat keeps eating grass when we take her outside and then she vomits it up when she comes inside. We have cat grass for her inside the house but is there any way we can stop her from eating grass when we take her outside and is it dangerous for her
Unfortunately, no. There is no way to stop her from eating grass when she is outside. In dogs you can use a grazing or basket muzzle but they do not have these for cats (to the best of my knowledge). Just be careful that the grass she is eating is not treated with any fertilizers/pesticides. Other than that, her eating it and then vomiting is not really a huge problem. If she does it incessantly though, you should have her to your vet for a check-up to make sure there is no underlying medical reason for this behavior. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Are you supposed to give cats something for hair balls, even if they don’t get them? I have a short hair cat and a family member said I was supposed to still give hair all treatment. If so, how often?
If hairballs are not a problem, you do not have to give them a specific hairball product. A high quality cat food and plenty of fresh water, as well as a healthy environment with some toys and scratching posts or other appropriate places to exercise his claws are all he needs. Is it ok to feed my cat anti-hairball dry cat food every day if she's not having hairball problem these days?
Yes, depending on the food. Most of the brands that claim to have efficacy against hairballs have some kind of formulation that has added fiber designed to help hairballs to pass. Some foods are more effective than others at this (stick to Science Diet, Royal Canin, or Purina for over-the-counter non-prescription diets). These are not usually prescription diets and are almost always ok to feed as a maintenance diet to normal, healthy cats.

My cats stool smells awful and a blood on it. When she eat malt paste her stool has no blood. How can a malt paste effect her gastro? Thanks
I hate to hear that Daisy is having these problems. The malt paste acts like a lubricant and makes it easier to pass the stool. The blood in the stool can be related to MANY things including parasites, disease of her organs, inflammatory bowel disease, improper diet and cancer. I would recommend to have Daisy examined by her veterinarian to see if the cause can be determined. In the mean time, I would recommend to add canned food into her daily diet (at least one can a day with extra warm water mixed in). If this helps, switch her over to an all canned food diet. Sometimes the stool is too sticky and the water will help. I would also recommend to switch ALL her food to something that is generally easy to digest. The brand I recommend is Royal Canin and they even make a sensitive stomach formula which would be a good initial option. I hope she starts feeling better quickly and thank you for using Boop by Petco.

My cat has been eating grass almost constantly and today she vomited some of it. It had bits of white stuff and there were chunks of grass. Is there something wrong with her? Thank you very much.
Sometimes dogs and cats seem to eat grass when they have an upset stomach, potentially to help settle their stomachs or to induce vomiting. If Ginger continues to vomit you may want to see your veterinarian to make sure she doesn't have a separate medical condition that is causing her to vomit. Otherwise I wouldn't be too concerned. I also think it is fine to allow her to keep eating grass - it provides vitamins, minerals and fiber!

My 3 year old calico cat will not eat and she pooped up a hairball.
If Lilly has gone more than 24 hours without eating, she should be seen by the vet.
