Why are my 10-week-old puppies sick with distemper-like symptoms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dads lab had a letter of puppies, 8 in total, all was dewormed regulary, had all there shots and we're giving away at 8 weeks. All were very healthy. Now at 10 weeks old and 1 by 1 the puppies are all getting sick, showing the same symptoms, there has been 6 in total that have got sick, one died and the vets say they do not know what it is and all test have come back negative. Symptoms are lethargic, snotty eyes, runny nose, coughing, no eating, balance problem. And sleeping alot. Please help

Hello, so sorry this happened. It sounds like distemper to me. At 10 weeks of age they likely only had one or two vaccinations. hat is not considered "all their shots". They are not fully vaccinated until they are 16 weeks old. In the meantime they are still susceptible to diseases like distemper. Unfortunately, there is no good testing for distemper. You usually diagnose by clinical signs. There are some tests that can be done but they are costly and the testing takes a long time. Here is an article about distemper. If I had to place a bet I would say this is the cause. ( http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=1733 )
