My dog has hair loss and waxy ears. Is it mites or allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | neutered | 10 months and 27 days old | 60 lbs

I noticed my dog had a few tiny hair loss patches and I noticed waxy stuff in his ear. I looked online and all I get is mites. I just need some help on verifying on what is so I can go get the medicine. I can’t afford on seeing a vet right now. Please help! I did just clean his ear with distilled vinegar.

This can be mites or it can be allergies. Unfortunately, to rule out mites you would need a skin scrape. If you were to use medication it is a prescription, so it is difficult to treat completely without seeing a veterinarian. If you need financial help here is a website with some information that may be able to help you afford the veterinary care. https://www.pawbark.com/financial-help-for-veterinary-care-costs/ Thank you for using PetCoach.
