My dog has a growing, fluid-filled, scaly lump on his ear. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 years and 9 months old

My 5.5 yr old lab mix has what appears to be a clear fluid filled slightly scaly lump on his left inner ear. It is located directly next too the auricular cartilage. It started out small like the size or a pellet, but it has grown to about the size of a dime. I do have photos of it, and would like to share if possible. I'm sure he needs to see his vet, but just curious to know what it could be related too.

I see what you mean! It could be from Finn scratching his ear or it could be a cyst. You are right he does need to see a vet for it, so give the vet a call to make him an appointment. Best of luck.
