Pregnant dog has dark green discharge, no puppies. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My pregnant husky has a dark green colored fluid coming out of her vagina as of about 5 am and it is now 11:30 am. She is at her approximated due date. Still no puppies. Should i be worried? I have read that it is normal and i have read to rush her to the vet for a c section. Would like to avoid a c section if possible.

Hi there. Dark green discharge is a sign of placental detachment - so if you are seeing this but no puppies have been produced, I would consider this an emergency and take her to the vet immediately for evaluation. He/she can examine her and assess the situation more fully, but I would be concerned that an emergency C-section is likely needed.
