Why is my dog with pancreatitis not eating, vomiting, and not peeing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 6 years and 9 months old | 16 lbs

Hi there, our almost 7-yr. old Yorkie, Beau, has had a past history of pancreatitis. Since first diagnosed around 2 years of age he has had multiple flair up incidents. Today is Wednesday and his last meal was dinner on Saturday followed by projectile vomiting Saturday night and into Sunday. He has not eaten since Saturday night but has been drinking a lot of water, more than usual. What is very confusing to me is that despite his water intake he is not peeing and acting lethargic.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Beau. You need to seek veterinary care for him today. That is a very long time for such a small breed dog to go without eating. Despite the increased water intake, he is likely dehydrated if he is not urinating. He will likely need bloodwork. Pancreatitis does not typically cause an increase in thirst. So while this can be the problem, other causes need to be considered. For example, diabetes will cause an increase in thirst. I hope this information helps!
