Why is my Shih Tzu puppy throwing up white foam and not eating?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 20 days old | 10 lbs

I have a 5 1/2 month old shih tzu. He seems to get sick in the morning. It looks like white foam. Not very much. It has only happened 3 times and not every morning. All his baby teeth are falling out and his appetite is not good. This morning he would not eat so I have him a boiled egg. He ate it up. Not drinking very much but he has peed. Seem very tired but he does not sleep good at night. Every noise he must see about. He see's the doctor on May 1, 2019 for heart worm test. What to do>

Poor guy. It sounds like Bailey may have an acid reflux condition or even an upset stomach from something he ate. I am a little concerned b/c he didn't eat this morning and this could indicate he is getting worse. Try offering him some boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for the next few meals to see if this entices him to want to eat. Some lean ground turkey can also be tried. Feeding him a late night meal may help reduce the amount of acid that bulids up overnight, so that he isn't sick in the morning time. You can also ask your vet if they would be willing to recommend some antacids for him to try until you can get him in for his scheduled appt. If he is still not eating however by tomorrow, then its best to take him in earlier than May 1st to make sure he is ok. I do hope that Bailey feels better soon! Best wishes and take care.
