My cat won't eat, lost weight, lethargic, and vet found nothing.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 2 years and 7 months old | 9 lbs

My cat is 2 years old and he lost 6 pounds within two months and he stopped eating and drinking water and barely leaves his bed, we took him to the vet but found nothing abnormal in his blood work and after spending a ton of money we still do not know the issue. We brought him home after he spent two nights on an iv and he still refuses to eat or drink

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. Keep in mind that sometimes it is challenging and expensive to reach a diagnosis which does not mean that it is not possible to do so. Further diagnostics such as abdominal ultrasound and biopsies may be needed. I recommend that you have Sebastian reevaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Treatment would be based on findings. Good luck and have a great day! Hoping for a speedy recovery!
