Is my cat's appetite loss from too many lymphoma medications?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 11 years and 9 months old | 11.5 lbs

Trix was just diagnosed with small cell lymphoma (not High grade) & the oncologist started her on Leukeran& prednisolone 5 days ago. She’s only had one Leukeran (it will be every 2 weeks) & pred is everyday. She’s also been on amoxicillin for 9 days. She was eating well before we started the Leukeran and pred but her appetite has now decreased. She also takes mirtazapine every 48hrs. Could there just be too many drugs in her system right now, causing nausea maybe?...Could it be the biomox?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While in theory Leukeran can cause inappetence being a chemotherapy drug, this is rarely seen with its administration. I think the antibiotic is more likely to be cause of this issue. However, it is still possible that it was the Leukeran so it is very important you let your veterinarian know as they may consider lowering her dose next time. Most of the time when decreased appetite occurs with chemotherapy, it is because of nausea so anti-nausea medications can help a great deal. This is something your veterinarian could prescribe for her. Best of luck!
