My dog's tail is bleeding from wagging. What to do before the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 1yr. 5month old lab is so excited all the time and wags his tail and sometimes hits things with it. Now there is blood on the wall where he hit it. It is not dripping or anything like that but i want to protect him. Is there anything i can do for his tail now until we can go to the vet?

It's quite a big problem, you won't be able to do anything unfortunately, your vet will attempt a bandage but this is often unsuccessful, if the problem persists and doesn't seem to resolve within a month or so your vet will recommend partial tail amputation.
