My friendly dog is suddenly snappy and barking on leash. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | neutered | 2 years and 1 month old | 42 lbs

My dog has always been very friendly, he just turned two and out of no where he’s starting to be very snappy towards jumpy dogs while on leash, when other dogs run over he would bark quite aggressively, he has never done that ever, but when he’s off leash or when the other dog is chill and slow and controlled, he’s completely fine. Is this something I need to train him? Or is this just his boundary?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These types of behavior can improve though this does require in person training with the help of a qualified dog trainer. I would encourage you to contact a dog trainer that can work with you and him in person to really take care of this behavior. The sooner these behaviors are dealt with, the more likely it is that you can improve and resolve them. Good luck and have a great day!
