My nursing cat has diarrhea. Could it be her new kitten food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 8 lbs

We have a stray Queen that came to us pregnant, had 4 babies all is fine, she is feeding the babies eating well, but, today she had diarrhea, she normally goes outside to go, we have 2 indoor male cats, I had set up a litter for her, but she insists on going outside.2 things that are new, I have transitioned her to Purina one kitten food & bought Friskies wet food, prior to this she was eating the indoor version. Could it be one if these, she ended up using the indoor litter & saw it.

If you switched her food, that could be the cause of her diarrhea. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. I hope this helps!
