Is uneven swelling normal after my cat's recent neuter surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 lbs

Is it normal that my recently neutered cat has one side of the surgery empty and the other "swollen" in comparison to the other?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While this is not normal, some degree of swelling should be expected after surgery. It is difficult to assess this without being able to see it. If this continues in the next day or so, I recommend you have him reevaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Best of luck!

A little swelling is normal but this may be a bit more than expected. I recommend to have Bo examined today to be sure it's not an infection, it's always best to play it safe. Also make sure he wears an elizabethan collar at all times to prevent licking which could make things worse. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
