My cat has fleas after neuter surgery. Is it safe to bathe him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 13 lbs

My male cat has been spayed 7 days ago. He escaped and went outside and now has fleas. I want to give him a bath with dawns dish soap to get rid of the fleas but it’s been 7 days since he’s been spayed. They said not to give him a bath until the incision is healed (14 days). Will it be OK to give him a bath??

Hi, I don’ t think a bath is the best way to get rid of fleas. I think it would be wiser to purchase some flea medications from your vet, you’ ll end up saving time and money. These can normally be applied to the back of the neck safely or come in the form of a tablet. Hope this helps,
