Why is my 2-week-old kitten sneezing? Is it allergies or illness?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 14 days old

We have 4 kittens that turned 2 weeks old today. They all nurse well on mama cat and are doing well. The boy seems to have allergies as he sneezes quite alot but only when hes awake. When he sleeps hes fine. Its quite odd. I know. I wipe his tiny nose several times a day just to make sure his nasal area is clean so he doesnt get bulid up of mucus so he can smell mama when she comes to feed but what else can I do? I think his mama is bringing in pollen on her fur.

True allergies would not be likely to occur in a 2 week old kitten. It is more likely that this kitten is showing signs of a viral upper respiratory infection - sometimes for whatever reason one kitten will show symptoms while others in the litter will not. If the nasal discharge is clear, his eyes seem normal and he is eating and gaining weight well then there may not be much else you need to do. If he has yellow or green nasal discharge, red eyes or eye discharge, or a decrease in appetite you should have him examined by your vet.
