My cat's nose has a scab and infection. Could it be cancer or fungus?

Hi, I’m contact you regarding my cat, George. He was feeling unwell for a few days, and not as alert as normal; also, he seemed to be squinting. A small scab started forming on his nose, and mouth (pictured). We decided to take him to the emergency veterinarian. They sent us home and told us to bring him back back today, which we did, and upon arriving home George ripped open his nose infection. It is very disturbing and we are worried and don’t know what to do (We have bathed it.) Thank You.

Hello. Did they send any medications home with you? My concerns, just based on your pictures, is that this is either cancer or a fungal infection. It just does not look like your normal, routine infection. It may be necessary to return to the vet & have some additional diagnostics done, such as a fungal culture & biopsy of some of the tissue. George is a relatively young kitty for cancer, but it can happen. I hope all is well soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
