Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 lbs

My cat recently vomited and then used the used the litter box, some got in the floor. It wasn’t diarrhea and she is running around playing fine. Should I be worried?

It's always a bit worrying when a cat vomits, but since Luna is otherwise acting normally, I can give you a home remedy for her. I recommend withholding food for 12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

It could be that Hayley ate something that upset her stomach, and if she seems fine now, I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps her. This doesn't appear to be very serious if she is acting normal. If she was acting very depressed and vomiting continuously, then it would be more of a concern. Since she is acting normal, you can feed her a small amount of food (about 1Tbsp.) every four hours, but avoid big meals. If she keeps that down, then you can feed a little more the next day. If the vomiting is continuing for more than three days, then it's best to take her to the vet for an evaluation. Below is a link to more information about vomiting that can help you determine when it's time to take her to the vet. https://www.petcoach.co/article/diarrhea-vomiting-in-cats-when-to-call-your-veterinarian I hope that helps and Kiara gets better soon.
