My dog ate chicken, now has acid reflux symptoms. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Male | neutered | 5 years and 9 months old | 100 lbs

My dog is doing this weird gulping and gagging noise. He’s also panting and drooling. I think it might be hers or acid reflux. He got into some seasoned chicken and sauce yesterday and now he’s doing this. He keeps eating tons of grass today too. I gave him some antacids. But I’m wondering if I should give him some Pepto Bismol instead

If Jackson ate some seasoned chicken and sauce yesterday, it could be causing him nausea. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.
