My dog's eyes are watery for months. Is it allergies from pollen?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Fox Terrier | Female | spayed | 11 years and 8 months old | 24 lbs

I live in South Florida and for the past 2 months, my dog has had watery eyes all the time. The discharge is clear. Spoke with my Vet and we believe it might be allergies, as I have been getting notifications of high pollen count in my area. We just can't figure out why her eyes would water so much so unexpectedly. I just read your article on allergies, but it focused mostly on skin. Any thoughts as to what you might think my dog is experiencing?

Allergies are certainly possible. Infections can also cause excessive watering. If Leah has not had a physical exam to check her eyes, I recommend to have this done. It’s a vet thinks allergies are the most likely cause, you should discuss starting her on an anti-histamine to see if this helps. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.
