Puppy diarrhea after deworming, not eating. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | 1 month and 5 days old | 7 lbs

Is it normal for a 6 week old puppy who was treated for hook worms 2 days ago to now having diarrhea 3 times today? She has eaten very little for past 18 hours but is drinking small amount of water.

The loose stool can be a result of the hookworm infection or a side effect of the dewormer. Try offering a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until the stool is normal. You can warm it slightly or mix in a teaspoon of plain baby food to stimulate the appetite. Make sure she continues to drink. You can offer unflavored PediaLyte mixed 50/50 with water. If the loose stool persists or if she becomes lethargic or stops eating altogether, then have Bella rechecked by your veterinarian.
