My cat has cold symptoms and clear discharge. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 17 lbs

My cat Snowy has seasonal allergies but I believe she has a bad cold. Sneezing, coughing clear discharge from eyes and nose when she sneezes. Is it necessary to get her to our vet or allow it to run its course as long as discharge isn't yellow or green.?

If she is otherwise acting normal then you could monitor for a few days and see if it improves. If she becomes lethargic, stops eating, has any problems breathing, or the discharge changes then she needs to be examined by a vet right away. She may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, and/or other medications to treat.
