Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Female | unspayed | 0.6 lbs
My one month old guinea pig has been sneezing on and off ever since I got her from the pet store (a week ago) she isn’t showing any other symptoms and I’m thinking it might be allergies but I read that it could also be a URI. I’m going to try setting up a air purifier and change her bedding ASAP and see if that helps at all. Should I plan on taking her to the vet?

Congratulations on adding Mocha to your family. Your ideas are very good and I recommend to use a bedding called Carefresh. Guinea pigs are very sensitive to dust in the bedding. I do recommend to call the pet store. Most small pets have warrantees and they may recommend to have her seen by the veterinarian if she is still under warranty. Certainly if she gets worse, she definitely needs to be seen. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hello, and thank you for your question. My first thought is that they have an upper respiratory infection, or cold. I would recommend switching away from aspen bedding, as aspen has volatile compounds that can irritate guinea pig breathing passages. Instead, you can try CareFresh or a similar dust-free bedding: https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/carefresh-natural-pet-bedding If their sneezing does not improve within the next 2-3 days, I would recommend bringing them to the vet. They may prescribe antibiotics if an upper respiratory tract infection is suspected. In the meantime, ensure they are eating a healthy diet of timothy hay and pellets, fresh veggies high in vitamin C, and occasional fruits, and drinking plenty of water. Also make sure they are passing normal stools frequently. I hope this helps, and that your piggies feel better soon!
