Yorkie has diarrhea after new food: Should I continue feeding it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 7 months and 26 days old

I changed my Yorkie's food. He has a bit of diarrhea. Do I continue with the new food - I have been giving the new food for 5 days now. Will his stomic get use to the new food or what do I do now? Please advice.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. You can continue to feed the new diet, but I recommend adding in a small amount of his previous diet into his new food while his GI tract becomes used to the new food. In the future, I recommend slowly transitioning a diet over the course of about 7 days, rather than changing abruptly. I hope this is helpful!
