What food for my cat and kittens for health and teaching dry food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | spayed | 1 year and 2 months old | 2.53 lbs

I've been wondering what type of food should I give Baby to keep her health good, same goes for her kittens. At the same time, I also want her and the kittens to have fluffy fur. What kind of food should I give them? Also, how do I teach the kittens to also eat dry food

Baby should have an adult cat food, the kittens needs a kitten food. To help the kittens wean and get used to dry food, I would soak a high quality kitten formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with kitten formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry kitten food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until they are eating the dry kitten food only. Brands of food I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I hope this helps!
