Is it okay for my 8-month-old kitten to eat adult cat food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 8 months and 18 days old | 9 lbs

Is it ok to feed adult wet to a kitten? My 8 month old Bailey suddenly is more interested in eating my adult Mistys food over his own. Tried different brands and also seperating them with no luck. Even thought of giving Misty kitten food to see if Bailey would eat it. He now us 10 lbs, which i know is too much for a 8 month old, 1 reason im trying to keep on kitten food. Thank you.

Bailey needs a kitten food. Kittens need higher amounts of protein, calories, and calcium than adult cats, and an adult cat food is not formulated to meet those needs. He is pretty close to a year, so you can try mixing together adult and kitten food. I hope this helps.
