Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 7 months old | 30 lbs

It's me again about my Boston, Junior 8 1/2 years old..he was diagnosed with LIVER disease 5 days ago. He's currently on Denosyl 90mg. Could you please advise a good diet for him? I know to eliminate any kind of organs, but what about chicken, eggs, homemade food? Thank you for your time and assistance...God Bless

Hi. The best food would be to go on the liver protective diet. Both Hills and Royal canin make the prescription food for liver disease. In addition, there are liver protective medications that could help from ypur veterinarian as well. Good luck

Royal Canin makes a prescription dry and canned Hepatic (liver) diet that is generally pretty palatable (tasty for dogs). Your vet may carry this diet in his/her hospital or be able to write you a script to fax in to chewy.com or PetCo.com Hills also makes l/d (a liver diet) but most dogs seem to prefer the Royal Canin version. Your vet will likely dispense a liver supplement /SAMe such as Denamarin or VetriScience Hepaticlear to help detoxify the liver and prevent clinical symptoms of liver disease which include inappetance, vomiting and jaundice (yellowing of the eyes and skin of the ears and gums). Good luck with Junior!
