Why do my puppies have dark, loose stools after recovering from parvo?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

We have two month old puppies recently treated for parvo. They recovered well overall but both have now started to have very loose and dark stools. Is this related to the recent parvo illness or is it something new? They have good appetite and energy. They have been eating special canned food recommended by the vet. We are concerned that they are getting sick again.

I would suspect it's something new because typically when a dog gets parvo and recovers, they are immune to the disease. It would be quite rare for a dog to get parvo again. Given how sick they've been, they should see the vet for this problem, but because they are eating and have energy, it's not an emergency. Rather, I'd take them into the vet first thing in the morning. I hope this helps!
