My dog has bloody, slimy diarrhea frequently. Is a vet visit urgent?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Blue Heeler | Female | spayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 55 lbs

Hello, I have two dogs. They both got diarrhea on Friday. My male dog was feeling better by the next day, but my female dog still has the diarrhea. She is going poop every 30 to 60 minutes, and it is containing a slimy new case as well as some blood. Other than that, she is eating, drinking, playing just normal. There have been no changes in her diet. Do you think she needs to be seen?

Yes, Josie needs to be seen today. Make sure to have her stool tested for worms and Giardia. Bacterial infections as well as these parasites can spread between dogs and both may need treatment. I hope this helps please feel free to post any additional questions.
