Why is my puppy's outer eye swollen and pink, and what should I do?

The outer part of my puppy's eye is a little swollen and pink. The insude looks fine. What could this be? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 9 days old | 8.2 lbs

Hi, and thanks for your question. That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.
