My cat still isn't pooping after enema and meds. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Bobtail | Female | spayed | 2 years and 10 months old

I gave Buttons an enema from the vet this morning after four days of no bowel movement. I was concerned. She has miralax daily in water plus lactulose three times per day and nothing is moving. She is eating and drinking. She has not had anything after the enema is acting ok. Part of Enema went in floor I would say she got about half of it into her. I’m not a good shot and they have to put her out at vet to treat her if they want to keep their hands no joke . It’s sad. I love her so much child.

Unfortunately if Button is still straining to defecate and not producing stool she may need to be sedated for a manual evacuation of her colon. Sometimes giving IV fluids and other medications can help a cat that is obstipated (severely constipated). I would recommend rechecking with your vet to see what they recommend.
