Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 66 lbs

female 4yo Lab. tries to pee a lot(every couple steps) but only a few drops come out. urinalysis showed crystals.she got antibiotics(amoxicillin - 500 mg, twice a day for a week).Symptoms were gone but soon returned. urinalysis- not crystals but basic urine(PH 8) +symptoms back with blood in urine.Vet prescribed same antibiotics for 10 days+ urinary medical food. after it, urinalysis + full blood test came clean but symptoms are back. Vet said ultrasound as next step - why not urine culture?

Yes, I agree with you even if crystals were found, it is always recommended to exclude a bacterial infection with culture and sensitivity to rule out and treat a possible concomitant infection. Continue the same urinary diet. Hope this helps !
