Why is my cat sneezing? Could it be a cold from being outdoors?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered

Feral cat having sneezing fits every few hours for 2 days. He's eating and drinking. He sleeps on my couch and let's us pet him and pick him up. Spends 3/4 of day indoors. When outside he goes into (not too far in) some woods behind my house and browses the neighborhood (doesn't go further than 2-3 houses away). Can he get a cold from outdoors? I'm new to caring for cats and want to help him. He's also shedding tufts of hair but has no bald spots

Yes, Fluffy could definitely pick up a respiratory infection from the outdoors. I'd have him seen by a vet in the morning. If he does have an infection, the vet can prescribe medications to treat him. Keep him indoors tonight so it's easier to get him in a crate to go to the vet tomorrow. I hope this helps!
