My cat's eye is squinting and teary. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 14.5 lbs

what’s wrong with my cats eye? she’s half way closing it and the fur around it seems like something got into it. one time my other cat scratched her eye and she couldn’t keep it all the way open but i don’t know if that could be the same thing. my other cat could have also sneezed on her causing the fur to get like that.

Usually a squinting eye is a sign of pain or discomfort, and in your picture it looks like Zoey’s fur around her eye is tear stained. A scratch on her eye is possible, as is an upper respiratory infection causing conjunctivitis. I would recommend having her examined by a vet - they might recommend a corneal stain to rule out an ulcer.
