My dog's eye is swollen and looks out of place. When to see vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Puggle | Male | neutered | 10 years and 5 months old | 40 lbs

My puggle’s eye is swollen or out of place in the lower left corner. It just started a few hours ago. Is this anything to take him to the vet for or is there something I can do to help him?

This looks like a protrusion of the third eyelid (cherry eye), in some cases when it is mild it can be treated with special eye drops that your vet can prescribe but in most cases it requires surgical repair.
