My active cat is getting older. What are signs of joint pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | European Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 years and 11 months old | 7.275 lbs

Our cat has always been very active: she loves to dash up and down the stairs and is very fast. But now that she's getting older, I wonder if her active nature will cause a strain on her joints in the long run. Are there any warning signs I should look out for? Thanks for your consideration!

One sign is limping. If Lona starts limping, she is in pain. You will also see a decrease in activity. She won't run around as much and she will be reluctant to jump onto things. If you do see those signs, have her see a vet to discuss using pain medications. I hope this helps!
