Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 3 years and 6 months old | 26 lbs
My dog has been having accidents while we are away. it has happened before and we attribute it to anxiety. but late the stool looks odd. We're not sure if this is how she's going, or shes trying to eat it, or she is trying to hide it. Have you seen anything like this before/ have advice? We would crate her but we have two dogs and feel bad leaving one out and not the other/punishing the dog that hasn't had accidents.

Some dogs will try to eat the stool, especially if they have anxiety surrounding accidents in the house. The only way to know for sure would be to set up a camera to capture the activity. The stool in the photo looks very dry and abnormal. This may be due to not drinking enough water or an inadequate source of fiber. I like diets made by Royal Canin as they tend to have a high quality fiber that produces normal, regular stools. Regular walks also help to move the bowels and you may try a diet change and a walk to see if this helps. If Riley seems ill, have her checked out by her veterinarian. If this does turn out to be behavioral, you may need to crate her again until she discontinues the behavior. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
